Marvel's Avengers Confirms Support Will Cease On September 30

Earlier today, it was reported that Crystal Dynamics was accelerating its plans to cease support for Marvel's Avengers after the departure of lead developer Brian Waggoner, with an official announcement expected as early as next week. Well, it seems like the developer has accelerated its announcement too, as it has now confirmed that support for the title will cease on September 30 later this year.

Crystal Dynamics has also revealed that Update 2.8 which launches on March 31 later this year will be the final batch of new content added to the Game before support ends. The developer stresses that both single player and multiplayer will still be available to access after September 30, as it will work to keep the Game playable for as along as possible.

In a statement posted to the Marvel's Avengers website, Crystal Dynamics thanks fans for supporting the Game and explains that all the Game's Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content is being made free to grab for existing owners from this date forward. It states that giving out all of this cosmetic content for free is the developer's way to "thank our community by letting everyone experience the breadth and depth of content in Marvel's Avengers."

"We know this is disappointing news as everyone in our community has such a connection to these characters and their stories," reads the statement. "We're so, so grateful that you came on this adventure with us. Your excitement for Marvel's Avengers - from your epic Photo Mod shots, to your threads theorizing who our next Heroes would be, to your Twitch streams - has played a large part in bringing this Game to life."

In related news, in the same report that claimed Marvel's Avengers would cease development, it was also claimed that the next Tomb Raider Game will be revealed later this year. Considering it's now been confirmed the report's sources are accurate, it seems the chances of Lara Croft making an appearance soon just increased dramatically.
