El Salvador's president is running for reelection, though critics say the constitution prohibits him

El Salvador's president has registered for reelection in next February’s contest even though legal experts and opposition figures say the country’s constitution prohibits it SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has registered to run for reelection next year, his party announced Monday, despite objections from legal experts and opposition figures who say the country’s constitution prohibits his candidacy. The constitutional question may not play a big role in the 2024 race, because Bukele's approval ratings are running above 80% in many polls, following a reduction in crime stemming from his harsh-but-popular crackdown on gangs. Also, a top court panel picked by his allies has ruled that he can run. Bukele’s New Ideas party announced his registration and that of Vice President Félix Ulloa via Twitter Monday. “New Ideas are invincible,” the party wrote. Bukele is popular in El Salvador but considered controversial internationally. He announced in Septem

Moving more effective than cleaning up distressed properties for children with asthma

Big part of asthma burden not about who you are, but where you live… research shows Children whose families participated in a program that helped them move from distressed neighborhoods to areas with lower rates of poverty and better public resources like schools and parks experienced significant improvements in severe asthma episodes, according to a new study led by a researcher at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. The study, published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association , involved 123 children, ages 5 to 17, with persistent asthma whose families took part in a six-year housing mobility program in Baltimore. Before moving, for every 100 children, there were approximately 88 severe asthma attacks per year. After moving, there were approximately 40 severe attacks per year, a reduction of more than 50%. “These findings confirm what we’ve long suspected: A big part of the asthma burden is not about who you are. It’s abo

McCartney, 80, told the BBC that the Technology was used to separate the Beatles' voices from background sounds during the making of director Pet er Jackson's 2021 documentary series, “The Beatles: Get Back." The “new” song is set to be released later this year, he said. Jackson was “able to extricate John’s voice from a ropey little bit of cassette and a piano,” McCartney told BBC radio. “He could separate them with AI, he’d tell the machine ‘That’s a voice, this is a guitar, lose the guitar’.” “So when we came to make what will be the last Beatles record , it was a demo that John had that we worked

Upon reaching the house, we were ѕᴜгргіѕed to eпсoᴜпteг Gina, the dog. She was skinny, and her eyes gleamed with anticipation as if begging us to take her away. Gina appeared to be exһаᴜѕted and weak. Her ears were in such аɡoпу that she couldn’t even open her mouth. Her name was changed. Following a Gina MRI scan, a lump was discovered in her inner ear and she underwent treatment to combat her cancer. As I sit here with a heavy һeагt, I can’t help but feel ѕһаtteгed into a million little pieces. While the doctors make arrangements for her therapy, I can’t help but wonder if my loved one still has the capacity to love others after all she’s been through.
