MultiVersus Will Go Offline June 25, Won't Be Back Until 2024
MultiVersus is going offline on June 25, and won't be back until 2024. This comes after months of complaints from fans, who were disappointed over the lack of new content.
This decision to pull the plug has divided fans, with many not even aware that MultiVersus was still in its open beta stage. Those who spent money on the Game's microtransactions are calling for refunds, but Player First Games has already stated that it will not be amending its refund policy in light of this news. Now, the full release of the Game is scheduled for "early 2024", leaving players without the platform fighter for more than half a year.
"Thank you for your support during the open beta," says MultiVersus game director, Tony Huynh. "We’ve been excited to see the interest and enthusiasm from the community and your feedback has been invaluable."
Huynh also alludes to the criticism MultiVersus received in its second season, implying this was the main factor in the decision to take the Game offline for an extended period of time.
"We know there’s still a lot of work to do," he continues. "As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the Game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements."
The Game won't be completely inaccessible after it goes offline. According to an FAQ, players will still be able to participate in local multiplayer matches and enter the training area with their characters. They won't, however, be able to access any online features, which includes microtransactions. In fact, you won't be able to purchase in-Game currency as of April 4, when all updates will cease.
MultiVersus will also be removed from storefronts on this April 4 date, meaning anyone who wants to play offline will have to pick it up before then. It won't have to be installed, just "purchased" on the store (even if it is a free-to-play title).
